Dining out often entails indulging in a 3 to 4 course meal: appetizer, main dish and dessert. Last week we talked about drinking water or unsweetened tea when dining out to avoid excess calories. Today’s wellness tip, I encourage you to avoid the bread basket and appetizer by ordering a salad before your main course. Request a garden salad as your appetizer. And to further avoid excess calories, order the salad dressing (preferably a vinaigrette) on the side. A hearty salad that is fiber rich will make you feel less hungry and less likely to overeat. Also, when you order the salad dressing on the side, you can control the amount of dressing you consume.
In Summary
Order a mixed green salad that is full of vegetables with the salad dressing on the side to avoid excess calories.
