Quick Health Tip: Are you interested in joining a gym, but can’t afford a gym membership? Did you know many health insurance plans have benefits that cover a portion, if not all the costs of a gym membership? As an example, my health plan, Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BCBS) has a program called FitnessBlue. With FitnessBlue, BCBS deducts $30 per month from my credit card for my gym membership. The best part is the monthly $30 fee allows me to belong to multiple gyms that participate in the FitnessBlue network. In addition, some health insurance plans reimburse a portion of your membership, if you can demonstrate active and frequent usage. As an example, my husband’s insurance pays upwards of $500 dollars at the end of every year towards his gym membership. Lastly, once you join the gym, some gyms will offer one or more free sessions of either personal training, physical fitness assessments or an introduction to the various exercise equipment and machines.
Sounds too good to be true, right? Check with your health insurance plan and find out what benefits are available to you and get moving this Move It Monday.
