Today Misty Copeland a 32 year old African American ballet dancer has become the first black female principal dancer in the 75 year history of the American Ballet Theatre. In this complex world that we live in where racism is still rampant we can only imagine the adversity that Misty Copeland faced as a black woman in a field dominated by white women. Also, we can appreciate her achievement even more knowing that we live in a world where our hair, bodies and curves are not considered the standard of beauty. The chips of adversity were stacked against her, but through grace she persevered and won. Celebrate us, celebrate Misty Copeland. Congratulations Misty Copeland!
